Half Blooming, Fully Human

“The Mask Slips — and I’m Okay With That”

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Ever notice how we meet people who seem perfectly fine — until you catch that flicker in their eyes that says, “There’s more behind this smile”?
Yeah, that’s me too.

How my world really looks inside.
Most people meet the version of me that’s got her hair brushed, her smile ready, and her “I’ve got this” energy on. But behind that, there’s a whole other landscape — a mix of wildflowers and burn marks, laughter echoing through old wounds, and the quiet kind of strength that only comes after you’ve been cracked open a few times.
What shaped me isn’t all pretty. Some of it still haunts me — not in a spooky-ghost way, but in the soft, whispering kind that asks, “Have you really healed yet?”

I’ve learned that most of us walk around wearing masks — polite ones, brave ones, overachiever ones. Mine used to fit a little too tight. These days, I prefer to let it slip.
Some people say, “Oh, you look great today!” and I’m like, Really? Because I’ve only brushed my teeth and my hair. I used to wear makeup as an extra layer of protection. But for almost ten years now, I haven’t bothered. We can let go of more of what the world sold us and just be a bit more… human.

I mean, I’m not running around blurting out, “I had this weird dream of drowning again!” — but being open and honest, saying things like, “I’m feeling a bit tired today,” or “I’m a bit overwhelmed with my family situation,” changes everything. Because when you do, you end up having the best kind of conversations — the ones that make things clearer and leave you with a quiet smile.

Because honestly? Life’s too short to pretend you’re fine when you’re halfway crumbling and halfway blooming.
So maybe this week, skip the full face of makeup. Let your skin breathe. Let your heart breathe.

See what kind of conversations show up when your mask doesn’t. And let me know how you go.

Love, Stefanie Anna
